Just received the news this afternoon in the post that my painting "West of Eleven" received the Hardie Gramatky Memorial Award at the American Watercolor Society's 146th Annual International Exhibition. I am deeply honored and so excited. My headache has vanished. On to planning the trip to NYC!

It is so dark today that it is like painting in a cave! I have a massive headache, and it is cold. This painting is suffering from my bad mojo today. I'm about to crawl back in bed and cover my head.
"There are so many things that we wish we had done yesterday, so few that we feel like doing today." - Mignon McLaughlin The sun shone yesterday so I painted in the afternoon. This one is coming along, albeit slowly. I am a slow methodical painter. I think it must be agonizing for my family to watch. When I get a painting done relatively quickly, everyone is surprised and enthusiastic. It only took a month? That was so quick! Back to my brushes.
"I've got a theory that if you give a hundred percent all of the time, somehow things will work out in the end." - Larry Bird Today we have freezing rain, hail, mixed with strong winds. Icicles hang from the roof and I am wrapped in an electric blanket. Not the best light for painting to say the least. Back to my brushes.
"An idea not coupled with action will never get any bigger than the brain cell it occupied." - Arnold H. Glasow My tree is just on the verge of blossoming, so today it snows. The jonquils down the street have already bloomed. I fear they will be covered in ice tonight. Back to my brushes.
""Not the power to remember, but its very opposite, the power to forget, is a necessary condition for our existence." - Sholem Asch Schrodinger's Cat. That time when anything is possible, could be my favorite. Painting today on this latest piece even though the light is awful. Back to my brushes.
"Don't ever take a fence down until you know why it was put up." - Robert Frost Beautiful light yesterday. Started a new painting and worked all day until the light was gone. Today it is gray, overcast, and cold. But the sun is showing earlier and lasting later. Spring is just around the corner and the daffodils have already bloomed down the street. Back to my brushes.
"Be pleasant until ten o'clock in the morning and the rest of the day will take care of itself." - Elbert Hubbard Received my AWS newsletter yesterday and there on the front cover is a photo of F. Charles Sharpe in front of his painting at the 2012 awards dinner. A true gentleman. Meeting him was one of the highlights of the evening for me. Good times. Good memories. Back to my brushes.
"Chemically speaking, chocolate really is the world's perfect food." - Michael Levine Worked from 10 a.m. to 1 a.m. An unexpected treat today as my cousin is in town. So I am out-to-lunch. Back to my brushes - tomorrow.
"Delegating work works, provided the one delegating works too." - Robert Half I have finished my latest painting "Nepheline Wave". It is in my final critique mode now and waiting for my signature. Today the light is fantastic and I will begin a new painting. Back to my brushes.
"If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader." - John Quincy Adams |
