I have earned Signature Member status in the Northwest Watercolor Society! Thanks to this outstanding watercolor society I have been given the opportunity to: exhibit my work at great venues; meet accomplished artists from the Pacific Northwest; take part in excellent classes; and see some fantastic sights. Head on over to The Mercer Gallery, located in the Mercer Island Community Center, 8236 SE 24th Street, Mercer Island, Washington, and enjoy the NWWS 76th International Exhibit on display now till June 3rd, 2016. Back to my brushes. "Magic is believing in yourself, if you can do that, you can make anything happen." - Goethe If I were to sit in one location and grab my favorite drawing instruments, this is what I would grab sans T-square and pencils. My old triangles have been around...well, a very long time and these are the original pennies I taped to the back. Why are there pennies on the back? So ink or paint will not bleed underneath, a very worthwhile trick-of-the-trade which is still valid for painting at least. The two older drawing instruments, a compass and divider, belonged to my uncle who died when I was quite young. I find them elegant in both form and function. My mother gave them to me when I studied art and mechanical drawing at university. Treasures. Connections. History. I bring it all to the table. Be sure and check the documentary reviews as I have added a couple lately. Back to my brushes. "The arts and sciences are avatars of human creativity." - Mae Jemison I continue working on this insanely colorful work and loving every minute of it; but it was just so gorgeous yesterday it was the perfect time to spend with friends and commune with nature. So a-hiking we did go! Except for the dead armadillo (perhaps it jumped from that cliff?) I was proven correct that it was the right decision to be outside. Okay, not perfect - strike that - I did lose my sunglasses. I placed them on top of my head momentarily to take a photo and I assume that is when I lost them. Back to my brushes.
