2016 Artist's Statement

For the past several years my paintings have been an exploration of duality in language.  My focus has been on words that have both a literal physical embodiment and are able to exploit semantic confusion.   Exploring the tempo of a visual language, I use component parts that form the structure of the work, but are also symbolic stepping-off points.  For the viewer it must weigh on the side of beauty; but like poetry it mustn’t restrict itself to one interpretation.
